Andy Alach
Andy has always been physically
active, playing a variety of sports during his high school years. He first
became interested in yoga in the late 1960’s through watching Lilias on
television. However, there were no studios available to him at that time. In
1970, he moved to Lakeland and opened All American Signs. Hearing that yoga
classes were being taught at Kelly Recreation Centers, he began attending Jo
Shim’s class, in 1987, and has practiced and taught yoga ever since. When Jo
moved in 1990, Andy took over her classes at Kelly Rec and taught there for 12
years, until 2002. He has studied with Richard Freeman, Bob Smith, Kali Ray,
Wanda Howe, Aaron Mattes, and Ina Townsend. He primarily practices Hatha Yoga
and is currently teaching twice a week at Chain of Lakes Center in Winter
Haven. He is a member of the Suncoast Yoga Teacher’s Association. Andy finds a
variety of benefits to be available through the practice of yoga, especially
stress reduction. He teaches that the rejuvenation of the body is through the
spine. He enjoys sharing these benefits with his students.
